Ranging from the immense, intelligent African Elephants to the tiny ground squirrel, you will see awesome Grizzly Bears, Asiatic Black Bears, Black Rhinos, the incredible Siberian Tiger, Polar Bear, Dall Sheep, Burchell's Zebra, Canada geese and exotic, colorful birds on this second zoological adventure page, all photographed by myself at one of the finest zoological attractions in the country, the
Milwaukee County Zoo. The animals found on these pages are only a fraction of the more than 1700 creatures of over 350 species expertly cared for within zoo. Viewing these magnificent animals will hopefully increase awareness of these creatures and of their importance in our world.
On the subject of zoos, recently, a striking 300 pound Siberian Tiger at the San Franciso zoo, Tatiana, escaped from its enclosure by traversing a 12.5 foot wall,
4 feet shorter than the recommended height, possibly in response to
provocations and taunting by visitors, one of whom was intoxicated. Three of these visitors were tragically mauled and one was killed. Sadly, Tatiana was also killed by policemen to prevent further mauling of a visitor.
Aside from the wall being too short, the other obvious factor is that certain taunting may be very provocative and highly dangerous in the presence of a Siberian Tiger. Tatiana was highly motivated for some reason to traverse the 12 foot wall to attack the visitors which led to the demise of one of them and herself.
There has never been an incident at the Milwaukee County Zoo with its tigers but they are, of course, reviewing their
safety procedures. While photograping one of the beautiful Siberian Tigers who was outdoors in its enclosure I did not have any concern for my safety. Of course I was behaving sensibly at the time also.
Sponsoring a Siberian Tiger will directly contribute to habitat improvements for this and other animals at the Zoo.
